Who is the course is for?

Anyone who would like to gain the basic skill of using word processing software (Microsoft Word).

How long is the course?

1 session per week for 5 or 6 weeks. The session is usually between 2 ½ and 3 hours.

What skills, knowledge or experience do I need to start this course?

You are expected to be able to write and communicate at a minimum entry level 3. We can arrange a literacy assessment if you are not sure. No other experience is necessary.

What will the course cover and what should I be able to do by the end of it?

The aim of this programme is to introduce, support and develop the word processing skills of learners that have completed the Computers for Improvers course or other OCNLR E3 qualifications.   By the end of this course you will be able to enter input text and edit word processing documents.  Structure information with word. Use word processing software tools to format and present documents and create documents using the template software within the application.

Will I get a qualification?

Yes, this is an accredited course. You will receive an Entry 3, Open College Network – London Region (OCNLR) qualification.

What extra study or practice is expected outside of the class?

You may be given homework activities and have the opportunity to attend our Drop-In sessions if you need additional support or access to a computer – see flyer for details.

How will my progress be assessed?

There is no exam, however there will be on-going assessments by your tutor and you will be given a series of activities/worksheets to complete which will contribute towards your portfolio of evidence needed to meet the assessment criteria for the course. The course will also include a variety of teaching methods including group work, discussions and practical activities. Your tutor will explain in more detail once you join the course.

You can progress onto the level 1 Word Processing course or any other ICT OCNLR course at Entry 3.   See our brochure for more details.

Are there any costs and what do I need to bring?

The course is free and handouts will be provided but you will need to bring along your own pen, note book and a ring binder (folder).

What support is available?

You will receive one to one support from your tutor throughout the course but we will also talk to you about any other support needs you may have. You can also attend our study support sessions to practice.
