File Management – Taster

Who is the course is for?

This course is a taster session aimed at learners with computer experience who would like to improve their file management skills.

How long is the course?

One 5 hour session.

What skills, knowledge or experience do I need to start this course?

Basic English, math and computer skills are required.

What will the course cover and what should I be able to do by the end of it?

This course develops learners understanding of how to manage files.

By the end of the course the learner will:

·         Be able to identify the differ types of data storage

·         Be able to sort/search and view files by name, size, type, date modified

·         Be able to back up files

·         Be able to create folders and sub-folders.

·         Be able to move and copy a file from one folder to another.

·         Be able to delete and rename files and folders.

Will I get a qualification?             

There is no qualification as this is a taster course, but you can ask for a certificate of attendance if you require one.

What extra study or practice is expected outside of the class?

If you require additional support you can attend any one of the study support sessions to practise what you have learnt.

How will my progress be assessed?

You will be assessed on the completion of the exercises/tasks completed during the session.

What can I expect to go on to after this course?

You will be able to progress onto either the European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL) Level 1, IT Skills for Work – Level 1 or Computers for Improvers offered at our Learning Centres.

Are there any costs and what do I need to bring?

There are no costs, but you need to bring a pen and notepad. Handouts will be given during the session.

What support is available?

You will receive one to one support from your tutor throughout the course but we will also talk to you about any other support needs you may have. You can also attend our study support sessions to practice.
