Who is the workshop is for?
These workshops are for anyone who would benefit from one-to-one support with getting started on their CV.
How long is the workshop?
Each session is for one hour. The first half is a consultation with a Tutor, followed by a further 30 minutes where you can work on your new CV in a supportive environment.
What skills, knowledge or experience do I need to start this workshop?
It will be very useful if you bring a list of any work you have done with dates, names of company and a description of the things you did in that job role. This will save you time when you come to create your new CV.
What will the workshop cover and what should I be able to do by the end of it?
In the workshop you will learn how write a personal profile paragraph highlighting personal qualities, skills and experience; make a list of your key skills that may be transferable to a job description; create a work experience summary, including paid and non-paid work; record educational and/or training activity and type a cv document using a template using MS Word.
Will I get a qualification?
No, there is no qualification attached to this workshop, but you will have a new CV to help you gain work.
What extra study or practice is expected outside of the class?
None, except a little preparation beforehand where you make a list of your work history, job title, who you worked for, dates and what you did. Any additional support you need after that you should be able to get at one of our employment support drop-in sessions.
How will my progress be assessed?
Well, by the end of the workshop you should be well on the way to having a CV that will help you apply for work with confidence.
What can I expect to go on to after this workshop?
We have a number of excellent courses that can help pave the way to employment, including our Vocational and Employment Skills courses like Preparing to Work in Hospitality and Catering, Preparing to Work in Adult Social Care or Preparing to Work in Customer Service. We also have courses to help you prepare for an interview.
Are there any costs and what do I need to bring?
The workshop is free and handouts will be provided but you will need to bring along your own pen, note book and a USB stick on which to save your CV. It will also help if you have an active email account.
What support is available? You will receive one to one support from your tutor, but we will also talk to you about any other support needs you may have
