Who is the course for?

The course is aimed at complete beginners, or learners with very little computer experience.

 

How long is the course?

One session per week for 6 weeks. The session is usually 2 ½ Hours per week.

 

What skills, knowledge or experience do I need to start this course?

Basic level of English and math skills are required.

 

What will the course cover and what should I be able to do by the end of it?

Learners will gain the confidence to use computer hardware (keyboard, mouse, monitor and printer), create a basic word processed document, and use basic internet tools and techniques to search for information on a website or the Word Wide Web.

 

Learners will:

  • Understand health and safety issues
  • Be able to start and shut down computers
  • Be able to use a mouse and keyboard
  • Be able to create and print documents
  • Be able to search for information on the Internet

 

Will I get a qualification?    

You will get an attendance certificate to say that you have attended and completed the course successfully.

 

What extra study or practice is expected outside of the class?

If you require additional support you can attend any one of the study support sessions to practise what you have learnt.

 

How will my progress be assessed?

You will be assessed on the completion of the exercises/tasks completed during the sessions.

 

What can I expect to go on to after this course?

On successful completion of this course you can progress onto the Computers for Improvers course.

 

Are there any costs and what do I need to bring?

There are no costs, but you need to bring a folder, pen and notepad. Handouts will be given during the sessions.

 

What support is available?

You will receive one to one support from your tutor throughout the course but we will also talk to you about any other support needs you may have. You can also attend our study support sessions to practice.
