Who is the course is for?

Anyone who would like to improve their word processing, internet, and email skills or update their skills using Microsoft Office 2010 software and Internet Explorer 11.

How long is the course?

2 session per week for 10 – 12 weeks. The session is usually between 2 ½ and 3 hours

What skills, knowledge or experience do I need to start this course?

You are expected to be able to write and communicate at a minimum entry level 3. We can arrange a literacy assessment if you are not sure. No other experience is necessary.

What will the course cover and what should I be able to do by the end of it?

This course will give you the ability to create, edit and produce text-based documents.   You will learn how to use a range of basic word processing tools and techniques to produce appropriate, straightforward or routine documents. You will also be able to use appropriate connection methods to access the Internet; make the best use of browser software tools and techniques to search for, retrieve and exchange information using a browser or public search engine, and work safely and securely online. You will also be able to make the best use of email software to safely and securely send, receive and store messages, organise contacts, appointments, tasks and notes.

Will I get a qualification?

Yes, this is an accredited course. You will receive a Level 1 Open College Network – London Region (OCNLR) qualification.

What extra study or practice is expected outside of the class?

You may be given homework activities and have the opportunity to attend our Drop-In sessions if you need additional support or access to a computer – see flyer for details

How will my progress be assessed?

There is no exam, however there will be on-going assessments by your tutor and you will be given a series of activities/worksheets to complete which will contribute towards your portfolio of evidence needed to meet the assessment criteria for the course. The course will also include a variety of teaching methods including group work, discussions and practical activities. Your tutor will explain in more detail once you join the course.

What can I expect to go on to after this course?

You can progress onto the level 2 Word Processing, Internet or Email course or any other ICT OCNLR course at Entry 3 or Level 1. See our brochure for more details.

Are there any costs and what do I need to bring?

The course is free and handouts will be provided but you will need to bring along your own pen, note book and a ring binder (folder).

What support is available?

You will receive one to one support from your tutor throughout the course but we will also talk to you about any other support needs you may have
